About Us

When people fit, they reveal their greatness. And that’s what compels us.

We’re no ordinary executive search firm.

Since inception (2 decades ago), we have been shaking things up in the world of executive search, frequently being the only female-led global search boutique amongst our peers.

Jack Hammer Africa is Africa’s largest executive search firm. We help companies, NPOs and private equity firms with a presence in Africa to build great leadership teams. As a cross-continental boutique, we have dual H/Qs in Los Angeles and Cape Town, and are the only search firm of our size to have on-the-ground presence in all the major markets in Africa. These include South Africa (covering SA, Zambia, Botswana, Zambia, Mozambique, Angola and Zimbabwe), Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, and Egypt.

Jack Hammer USA focuses on disruptive and emerging industries, including biotech, healthcare innovation and edtech.

As members of IRC, the world’s number 1 executive search network, we offer global reach in more than 55 countries.

Wherever we find ourselves, our purpose remains the same: to find leaders who grow great companies, where everyone thrives. So it’s our mission to find great people for every search project we fulfil. We do this by finding the balance between performing to win and building connection; extraordinary rigor and effortless flexibility; challenging the status quo and keeping it real. Asking the hard questions. Defining what a great leader looks like for you. Digging deep, and always looking beyond the obvious!

That’s why we’re called ‘Jack Hammer’.

The company is established in South Africa, is originally known as ‘Hunt Executive Search’, and focuses on retained executive search.

Jack Hammer makes it through the global financial crisis with flying colours. As an independent boutique, we are rated one of South Africa’s top 3 executive search firms.

Our daily ‘IntheFlow’ practice becomes an integral part of our culture and values. Close to half of our team starts working remotely, and we abolish our leave policy. We actively work on creating a culture of autonomy, accountability and freedom. This really works for us!

We set foot further afield, establishing a presence in the USA. Our credentials earned helping companies in Africa diversify their boards and leadership teams stands us in good stead in the US.

We rebrand to ‘Jack Hammer’. Why this somewhat quirky name, which is NOT named after its company founder? For those in the know, a jackhammer is a power-tool that digs deep beneath the surface and shakes things up. Our maverick founder thought this was a perfect name for our (then) all-female team.
We are invited to become members of IRC Global Executive Search Partners, the world’s number 1 search network.

Heart Projects

We love kids. We love dance. So we’ve invested in them.

Garage Dance Ensemble

Most people don’t know where O’kiep is situated. But if you can find this town, turn first left at Hibiskus Lane to reach Garage Dance Ensemble, led by the illustrious Alfred Hinkel and John Linden. Walk into the studio, and you’ll see some of the country’s most talented and expressive young dancers, sweating away in class or rehearsal. They serve not only as performers and teachers, but also as role models and inspirational leaders in their community.

Indoni Dance, Arts & Leadership Academy

This group of young dancers is based in Gugulethu, led by Sbonakaliso Ndaba, a globally-renowned choreographer and masterful teacher, who is committed to empowering young adults through dance. To see them perform is to be blown away by their power, skill, and passion. They need funds to keep training and dancing.

Ikamva Labantu

Amongst the many organisations doing incredible work for impoverished children, Ikamva Labantu stands tall with a reputation for delivering on their promises of tangible and lasting value to their programme recipients. We support their Early Childhood Development programme.

Harambee Youth Employment Accelerator

Harambee wants to solve the youth unemployment challenge in SA by connecting employers looking for entry-level talent to high-potential youth who are hungry for opportunity. Since we’re interview experts at Jack Hammer, our team helps prepare these young people for that first, all-important meeting.
