Execs – want to know what you’re worth?

Of course you do!

And I’ve discovered that one of my greatest contributions to humanity (well, just the broader executive community) is as a source of information on packages. Or more accurately, I’m the person your brother, your cousin living in Joburg, or your old digs mate – all of whom are now relatively far up the corporate ladder – knows, because they told you they’ve been HEADHUNTED!

SO now you’re hoping I can help you…..negotiate a new package offer, motivate for an increase, justify a bigger bonus, or something similar.

And if I’m in a good mood I’m happy to help. In fact, if I were working for FNB, I’d be saying “How can (we) help you?”.

But here’s the thing – it’s almost impossible to provide any meaningful support in a vacuum. Here are some examples of package info requests that I received this week:

“I’m a CEO – what should I be earning?”

“I’ve been promoted to Marketing Director – what increase should I be asking for?”

“I’m relocating to South Africa – what is the salary range for a Head of IT?”

Let me spell it out – there is no single sum for a certain role!

A package range varies dramatically, depending on the following variables: your background, qualifications, years of experience, previous roles, time in senior management positions, level of technical expertise in the industry sector AND (as, if not more, importantly) the size of the company, the industry sector, the level of profitability….etc, etc.

So please, help me to help you by offering as much of this info as possible – OK????

      Hi Craig

Thanks for providing all the relevant info! I’m happy to provide some guidelines, but this is a pretty public space to be discussing a relatively private matter. let me know if you’d like to use this forum, or perhaps a more direct email communication, before a let it all hang out here!

      Best
      Debbie
